    POMEROY– The United States Forest Service building suffered a fire on January 2, which was extinguished in an hour. There was damage to the lighting, walls, and carpet.     POMEROY–Debbie Keatts retired from her position with Pomeroy Grain Growers Agronomy after 11 years. She graduated from the Kelsey Baird Secretarial School in Spokane worked as a billing clerk for Consolidated Supply. When she married Tom Keatts she moved back to Pomeroy and worked as a bank clerk.     Ten years ago January 11, 2012 Eastern Washington University has announced that a Pomeroy High School graduate has been named to the Dean’s List for the university’s fall 2011 quarter. Tyler Reisdorph was named to the academic honor. Eligibility is based on an undergraduate student earning 12 quality hours and receiving a grade-point average of 3.5 or better.     POMEROY–The Garfield County Fire District No. 1 board of commissioners (GCFD) approved a $25,000 transfer from their investment fund to their cash on hand at their meeting on December 14. The transfer is to keep their cash on hand at its regular amount of $100,000. The GCFD received donations from Larry Bunch and in Charles Woody’s name from Ladonna Crawford for their ambulance fund.     POMEROY–The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) signed an agreement to match a grant from the Washington State Department of Agriculture Fair Project at their meeting on January 3. The grant amounts to $81,000 and will be used for capital projects. In addition, the commissioners also approved Resolution 2022-01, a salary and wage schedule for 2022.     Ten years ago January 4, 2012 Pomeroy’s FFA chapter held a Toy & Canned Food drive during the month of December. Advisor Robert Matthews said members raised over $125, brought in “nearly 150 lbs. of food, and a large load of toys.” Proceeds went to the Garfield County Food Bank to keep efforts local, Robert said. The bid that was accepted at last week's BOCC meeting on December 20 for a pre-tax amount of $79,833.30, then was adjusted to include cameras for the Garfield County Public Works office and the Garfield County Fairgrounds.     POMEROY–The Pomeroy School District (PSD) board of directors approved Resolution 306 and the hiring of Brock Ledgerwood, reinstatement of Ben Slaybaugh and the resignation of Jan Koller at their meeting on November 30.
