    POMEROY–The Pomeroy Gun Club members were blessed with better shooting conditions during the second week of the Camas Prairie Telephonic shoot, and better scores were the result. The Junior shooters posted most of their scores on Saturday January 15. In the 12-year-old and younger Division Carter Barron posted the best singles score with an 18 of 25 effort.   • Fire District approves bid for water tender

    POMEROY–The Garfield County Fire District No.1 board of commissioners announced at their meeting on January 11, that the new fire engine is at the station. The commissioners went on to approved Resolution 2022-02 to bid $41,300 for a water tender. They also voted to approve the bidding process for building a brush truck.     A bill scheduled for a public hearing next week (HB 1727) would ban citizen ballot measures in odd years, but still allow local governments to call special elections to increase taxes. A similar bill was proposed in 2020. Former Secretary of State Kim Wyman testified against the idea of banning odd year ballot measures in 2020.     May 22, 1926–November 4, 2021 Laurel Helen Feider, 95, passed away at her daughter’s home in Dayton on November 4, 2021. Laurel was born to George W. Bowles and Christle Darland in Pomeroy, Wash., on May 22, 1926. Laurel married Raymond Feider on Novermber 28, 1953; he passed away September 1987. She belonged to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a member of the Atlar Society.     By Loyal Baker POMEROY––Just when the Pomeroy Pirates would build a comfy lead, the Tekoa-Rosalia Timberwolves would creep back into the game, and when the nice, 10-point, fourth-quarter lead got pared down to just two points, the Pirates were able to hit clutch buckets and keep the T-wolves at bay.     RITZVILLE–The Ritzville Invitational was diluted by teams that dropped out last Saturday, scaling back to a five-team match where three Pirate wrestlers–Walker Flynn, Curtis Winona and Braedyn White–went undefeated in three matches. At the first league match at Liberty-Spangle on January 13, Flynn and Winona wrestled well, going undefeated.
