  • OPINION

Mark Harmsworth, Director, Small Business Center, Washington Policy Center|Jun 11, 2020

One thing is sure, work will look different in a post COVID-19 world. Many employers who sent employees home to work remotely during the crisis, are reconsidering work at home policies after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Some employers have even seen increased productivity. Square recently announced that it was going to update its policy and allow some employees to stay home permanently. There are some jobs of course that will still need to come into the office, but if an employee can...

  • On the Edge of Common Sense

    Baxter Black|Jun 11, 2020

Years ago the movie “BABE” was nominated for several Academy Awards including Best Picture. It was very popular and made a lot of money. It stars a pig named Babe. A gilt to be more specific... a feeder pig maybe weighin’ 80-100 lbs. But it was a cute pig. It talked, of course, was kind and brave. And to top it off, it did heroic deeds and yet maintained a sensitivity that would make the Pope blush. All this anthropomorphism, giving a pig human qualities, is necessary if movie makers expec...

  • HOSPITAL CORNER

    Jun 11, 2020

We would like to talk money in this week's update. We have heard some confusion and frustration about why we would still need the levy since we have received so much grant money. To start, we want to give our appreciation to everyone who participated in the April election. The special levy that was passed in April is to fund our regular maintenance and operation costs. The Hospital District regularly operates in the red with losses of around $500,000 for 2019 alone. We are dependent on tax...

  • A Teen's Take

    KayLee Schmidt|Jun 11, 2020

POMEROY–This summer is going to be an odd one for sure. I am not sure how this break from school is going to work. Now that we are in Phase 3 the swimming pool can open, but there will be no swim team and only up to 50 people can inhabit an area at a time, so it will certainly close down other outdoor activities limiting typical summer fun. I am working a few jobs during the summer which means I have to manage my time if I want to have some fun with friends. That’s what has been the hardest part...
