With the retirement of Bob Johnson from the Garfield County Commission, a position on the three-man governing body is now open. Bob has represented the county well. Now I would like to fill the void that he leaves and am asking for your vote. It should be a close race, with two other qualified candidates also seeking the position. Whatever the outcome of the election, the county will be in good hands. My decision to run comes from a deep love and respect for this county and its citizens. As a...

A country girl since birth, I was raised in the Columbia Basin, where my father was a pioneer who broke out sagebr...

Having traveled throughout most of the United States and several countries abroad, I recognize and appreciate the small-town values and quality of life we enjoy. Truly, Garfield County/Pomeroy is a wonderful place to live, raise a family, and call "home". Being raised on a multi-generation farm/ranch, the value of work ethic was impressed upon me. "If...

  • Candidate for Commissioner - District 2

    Jul 16, 2020

Wynne McCabe I'm Wynne McCabe and, in fact, seeking another term as District 2 County Commissioner, which appears to be contrary to what several people have told me. They've heard I wasn't running. Inadvertently, I may have added to the confusion by not having any signs out, but personally, I've grown weary of looking at campaign signs for five months. Both of us will be on the ballot in November so, as I did in the last two elections, I chose to wait until after the Primary to make you look at...

  • OPINION

Roger Stark M.D., Health Care Policy Analyst, Washington Policy Center|Jul 16, 2020

As the COVID–19 viral pandemic rages across the world, the political left in the United States wants to use this health crisis as a reason to transform our health care into a government–run, single–payer system. As Rahm Emanuel, President Obama's Chief of Staff said at the time of the 2008 economic turmoil, a crisis should not be politically wasted. Canada is the poster–child for a single–payer system. Researchers at the University of Toronto estimate that 35 percent to 70 percent of the count...

They discussed his needs. Plans were made for the fieldman to attend a bull sale in Texas with the express instructions to buy exactly the right...

    KayLee Schmidt|Jul 16, 2020

POMEROY–When the COVID-19 pandemic originally broke out, my friends and I thought that it would just run its course and we’d be on our way. Man, were we wrong! Now that it has entered our county, it’s becoming more real. I mean it was scary to see that this virus was killing young healthy people, but now that it is in our community, it is more apparent.
