POMEROY–Concerned parents and grandparents of local children attended an Unmask Pomeroy Kids meeting at the City Park on August 18. The concern was about Washington State mandates that require children to wear masks in schools. Margo Morgan, organizer of the meeting, handed out scientific evidence of the harm that wearing masks does to children. POMEROY–A couple of years ago, local artist Mary Cook discovered "The Sketchbook Project" online which is "an independent company that organizes collaborative art projects and tours" and exhibits the efforts of artists–famous or unknown–from around the world via the Brooklyn Art Library. POMEROY–The Garfield County Health District announced mandatory testing for unvaccinated Pirate basketball players at a meeting on August 23. All unvaccinated basketball players will be tested twice a week, 24 hours before a competition, and three days after a competition. Volleyball will not require testing because it is classed as a 'moderate' activity, and football will not require it either because it is played outside. Fred G. Stallcop May 26, 1934–August 13, 2021 Fred G. Stallcop of Carmichael, Calif., passed away peacefully at his home in Sacramento on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the age of 87. Fred was born to George and Hilda (Hull) Stallcop in Pomeroy, Wash., on May 26, 1934. He grew up and worked on the family farm harvesting wheat.
