Ten years ago April 11 2012 With a beautiful sunny afternoon the day before Easter, the Spinners Club’s annual Easter Egg Hunt drew hundreds of kids ready to find a total of more than 1,500 hard-boiled and toy eggs. Robert Glaspie July 2, 1930–March 26, 2022 Robert "Barber Bob" Glaspie, 91, pulled away from the dock for the last time on March 26, 2022. Robert was born July 2, 1930 in Troup, Tex. A Korean War veteran, Bob drove a tank and served in the military guard before receiving an honorable discharge and marrying Salina Gayle Hester Goodman in 1952. LACEY, WASH.–Garfield County is among thirteen Washington communities that will share in a grant received from local law enforcement to provide free bike and skateboard helmets. Pomeroy will receive $500. The funds were awarded by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) as a part of a program approved by the Washington Legislature in 2021. POMEROY–It was announced at a City Council meeting in March that Diane Taylor will be the new City Clerk and Treasurer. She will begin work in Pomeroy on April 1, succeeding Shaun Martin, who is retiring. Taylor graduated Pomeroy High School in 1982, and received an associate's degree in accounting from Spokane Falls. POMEROY–The Garfield County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) receives a grant from Washington State Fair Capital Grant fund, and approved Resolutions 2022-10 and 2022-11 at their meeting March 28. It was announced the county received a Washington State Fair Capital Grant for $81,100, half of the $162,000 to complete the fairground irrigation and electrical. POMEROY–The Pomeroy City Council approved a contract with Arrow Concrete and Asphalt at their meeting on Maarch 21. The contract is for $35,000 to refurbish the tennis courts at the City Park. The plan proposed will create pickle ball, tennis, and basketball courts, and better lighting. The money will come from a Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation grant, a Northwest Credit grant, and money left from the Gazebo project. POMEROY–The Pomeroy School District board of directors (PSD) hired Nikki Halbert and Jonathan Davis at their meeting on March 22. Halbert and Davis will be assistant track coaches for the 2022 season. The PSD directors approved calendar negotiations from the Garfield County Education Association, and have set the 2022-23 school year calendar. POMEROY–The Elementary Schools kicked-off the first annual "Pig Out on Books" reading challenge for one week which started last Friday, March 25. The goal for each student is to read 200 minutes in one week, with an elementary school goal of 40,000 minutes. Each student will keep track of their own reading time.
