Employee of the Month, Mindy Roosevelt
POMEROY–Garfield County Hospital District is proud to announce November's Employee of the Month, Mindy Roosevelt, Receptionist, Certified Nursing Assistant, (CNA), Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Medical Assistant (MA) Phlebotomist, and a MA X-ray Technician. She was nominated by her co-workers for being an excellent employee. Her peers were quoted saying, "Mindy is a great asset to the Garfield County Hospital District (GCHD) team. She is a joy to work with and have as part of our team."
Mindy is a native of Pomeroy and was born at the Garfield County Hospital. One of her first jobs was working as a dishwasher in the Dietary Department during her high school years and graduated from PHS in 2000. Mindy has always had an interest in the medical field and began her career as a CMA at Wedgewood Terrace Assisted Living. In this role, her duties were similar to a CNA but with the added responsibility of administering daily medication to patients.
In November of 2010, Mindy applied for nursing assistant classes through GCHD and earned her CNA certification in March of 2011. After four years in this position, another opportunity presented itself as a MA with the prospect of becoming a phlebotomist and an x-ray technician. Mindy's medical ambitions launched her into training and she achieved her MA Certification in conjunction with MA Phlebotomist and MA Limited X-ray Technician licenses through Washington Department of Health. In addition, she broadened her skill sets by helping out in the Physical Therapy (PT) Department as a PT assistant for a year and then transitioned into the Billing Department in her current role as the hospital's Admitting Receptionist.
Over the past nine years, Mindy has become a very valuable employee, attaining several specialized skills and abilities. This has not gone unnoticed by her peers who have said, "When she is asked to help, she does without hesitation." Her devotion and loyalty do not stop there. She has been an active member in the Employee Advisory Council volunteering countless hours preparing food for potlucks, Employee Appreciation Days, and special occasions. She is quick to help set up and tear down at these events, without being asked. The HUGS Gift Shop is maintained by Mindy who enthusiastically decorates the shelves, along with the administration side of the hospital, for every holiday and seasons throughout the year. "I love it!"
Mindy's dedication to excellence by serving the patients and visitors with respect and professionalism is one of her best attributes. As the first person to welcome the public when arriving at the Admitting Office, her personality shines through. "She always greets patients with a smile on her face." When asked what she likes best about her job she replied, "I love the people and the patients and when they visit I get to hear their lives and its fun. I hope to remain here until I retire and be a life-long community member."
