POMEROY–The annual Garfield County Farmers Day will be held at the Pataha Flour Mill on Monday, February 3 from 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Coffee and donuts will be served and the polls will be open for Pomeroy Conservation District Supervisor at 8:30 am.
Topics to be discussed in the morning will include the Garfield County Voluntary Stewardship Program (VSP); the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP); and an update from the Farm Service Agency.
Following a brief break, participants will hear an update on the Beaver Dam Restoration Program; and a presentation on the Use of Biological Control Agents to Control Weeds.
A free lunch provided by local sponsors and the Pomeroy Conservation District will be provided. During the meal break, the Pomeroy FFA Agricultural Issues team will give a presentation, including a information on the Washington Association of Wheat Growers Student Wheat Ambassador Program.
The WSU Extension Agronomy Update and a discussion of the NRCS Cover Crop On-farm Trial research will begin the afternoon lineup. Next will be a presentation on growing Winter Peas in the Pacific Northwest as an alternative crop. The program will conclude with an update from the Pomeroy Conservation District. Two Washington Pesticide Recertification Credits have been applied for from the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) for those needing recertification credits.
