Junior High Wrestling

The first wrestling meet of the year and the only home meet that the Jr. High wrestlers got to host this year was January 22.

The wrestlers performed very well in front of a large home crowd, with teams including Colfax Jr. High and Sacajawea Jr. High (Lewiston).

The wrestlers were very nervous for the first match, but everyone wrestled to the best of their ability, which is all a coach can ask.

The outstanding wrestler of the evening, in my opinion, was Jacob Reising, who won all three of his matches by fall. This year’s team is a young team... and although I have high expectations for them, I also expect there to be some bumps and bruises along the way.

The Pomeroy Jr. High wrestling team traveled to Lewiston to wrestle the Sacajawea Braves, Orofino Maniacs, Highland Jr. High, and Moscow Bears on January 30.

Pomeroy has 13 wrestlers this year, which makes it fun for the coaching staff, eight 6th graders, two 7th graders and three 8th graders. It is always fun to wrestle with Moscow because they have nearly 50 wrestlers on their team and we can pair up wrestlers well... most kids getting opponents near their weight and skill level.

There were many outstanding matches and wrestlers this evening, Michealle Debord and her nasty cradles, Junior Ott made his debut and won both of his matches. Walker Flynn won a good tight match by persevering and utilizing one of his good ‘tilts’. Sixth grader Gunner McGill probably had the best night though, winning all three of his matches. Gunner is showing a lot of potential by wrestling hard for the entire match.
