Naslund Disposal Service of Clarkston is preparing to take over garbage collection in the city on the first of April.
Pomeroy Grange Supply has purchased the inventory and furnishings of Pomeroy Auto Parts and the store will be relocated to the Grange Supply site within the next three months. It will continue operating at its current location until then.
Victorian Rose & Collectibles, owned by Vickie Shelton, is the new name of the florist and gift shop formerly known as The Flower Basket.

Conference champions Pomeroy Pirates are bound for the district basketball tourney in Walla Walla. Several stores in Pomeroy plan to close early on game days to allow owners and employees to attend the tournament.
Pomeroy school district directors have taken action making it possible for high school students to attend the State Class A Basketball tournament in Tacoma if Pomeroy should qualify for the event at the district tourney.
FFA Animal Fair, prepared by the local FFA chapter in honor of National FFA week, is in progress this week at the Ag shop. Animal displays include a burro, horse, steer, beef and dairy cows, ewe and two lambs, pigs, chickens, puppies and a duck. The State Game Department furnished a display of live game birds.
Paul Miller, PHS teacher and relief patrolman, has been named acting Pomeroy chief of police on a part-time basis until a permanent appointment is made to replace retiring Chief Tom Bunch.
A chartered Greyhound bus will take a capacity signup of 40 wheat growers from Garfield and Asotin counties on a one-day tour of the Inland Empire this weekend.

The Pomeroy boxing team wound up its regularly scheduled 1945 season in a manner most pleasing to everyone, by defeating the Lewiston Bengals 6-4 in a smoker considered by a record crowd of local fight fans as the best of the year, including Kenneth Price’s KO of his opponent in the third round.
Clarkston and Pomeroy will represent our district in the tournament at Colfax this week. In the drawing that took place at Colfax, Pomeroy was matched with Pine City. Pomeroy showed excellent form in their last game and feel that if they are not subdued by the gremlins, they will be able to take the Pine City squad.
The Garfield County pea goal has been set at 3300 acres under the new announced government pea program.

February 28, 1920
Hearty support by the commercial club for the recently organized baseball association was promised at the recent club meeting. Members endorsed the proposal for a four-team league composed of Pomeroy, Dayton, Waitsburg and Prescott.
The Krouse machine shop, re-equipped to take care of all kinds of automobile repair work, has added new machinery and erected a model concrete daylight workroom, 40x40 feet. Notable among the new equipment is a cylinder-boring attachment for the large lathe. Other new machinery added to the acetylene-welding equipment installed some years ago, is said to place the establishment on a par with metropolitan machine shops.
A “calf club” is to be formed in Garfield County by the Farmers’ National bank if sufficient interest is evidenced by the young people of the community. The plan would allot six to ten Hereford and shorthorn heifer calves to this county from two cars which are to be brought into this district. The calves will be sold to boys and girls, each of whom is to execute a note for the price of the calf selected. Father, guardian or friend will sign as security. The calves are then to be cared for by the children for nine months, to be followed by a “calf club sale.”

W.B. Williamson has ordered stock of furniture and undertaker’s goods and will re-open the C.W. Moore & Co. furniture store.
March 1 brings sunshine and the best roads we have seen for years at this season. The “lamb” is with us, now look out for the “lion.”
Quite a number of families are ordering goods from the East this spring. They claim your article last week in regard to ordering goods from a distance is not altogether correct, Mr. Ed.
In every direction Mayview farmers may be seen plowing—an unusual sight at this time of year.
