POMEROY–Garfield County Transportation Authority (GCTA) Director Rachel Anderson, discussed a change in transportation service hours, beginning April 1, 2020 during the regular meeting March 16. Trips to the Lewis-Clark Valley will reduce to two days per week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The GCTA will hold a special public meeting at the courthouse to allow public comments on this proposed change on March 30, 2020, at 1 p.m.
Anderson stated that it appears ongoing opposition to I-976 is beginning to look favorable for the GCTA, which joined a lawsuit with several other counties. Their claim is that the way the initiative was worded was very misleading to voters, and no one was aware of the ramifications such an initiative would have for small, rural counties.
To date, the GCTA has received no word of cancellations for public transportation from the State, as part of the restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 virus. So it is business as usual for them, with the added precautions of disinfecting vehicles.
A long-time employee of the GCTA is retiring, which creates a need for another driver one to two days per week.
The next regular monthly meeting of the GCTA will be Monday, April 20, 2020, at 1:15 p.m. at the courthouse.
