POMEROY–The Garfield Public Transportation Authority (GCTA) is currently offering transportation services again, but is still restricted to Phase 3 guidelines under the Governor’s Safe Start Plan.
“Sneeze Shields” have been installed in three vehicles, and social distancing precautions are being observed. Drivers are encouraged to wear masks. At this time, only four riders are allowed on the buses at one time. The number of riders allowed is believed will increase when the county advances to Phase 4.
The GCTA has also adopted the policy that no one will be picked up from a long-term care facility. They have experienced some difficulty with at least one person requesting to be picked up from such a facility in Lewiston, to be brought back to Pomeroy. The restriction is in place because it is not possible for the GCTA to determine where the rider has been, and who the rider has been around.
To keep the Garfield County residents and high-risk riders safe, it is necessary to follow the policy. Any violations may result in a person being suspended from service for a period of time.
