Eight local students awarded Shepherd Foundation Scholarships

WALLA WALLA–The Walla Walla Community College Foundation announced eight Pomeroy students receive the Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation Scholarship for the 2020-21 year. Through the generosity of Harold and Helen Shepherd, Gustavo Alvarez-Torres, Tanner Bremer, Jim Englander, Heidi Heytvelt, Phoenix Kinsall, Sean Kinsall, Jaden Steele, and Gabriel Vasquez will have the opportunity to pursue their educational dreams at Walla Walla Community College this fall.

The Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation Scholarship Fund assists students from Garfield and surrounding counties to access higher education. The scholarship honors the lives of Pomeroy wheat ranchers Harold and Helen Shepherd who were active civic leaders in Garfield County. Because of the generosity of the Shepherds and stewardship of trustees Gary Houser and Jim Hayner, the Harold and Helen Shepherd Foundation has provided more than $1M in support of WWCC students and programs since 2001.

Their continuing support means each of these 2019-2020 Shepherd Scholarship recipients will receive a $1,000-$1,500 scholarship.
