POMEROY–Several local Gun Club members participated in the Western Zone Shoot this past weekend at Colton Gun Club. Shooters who competed with one another in Colton also competed with shooters at 13 other Clubs throughout the Western United States and two Canadian Provinces.
Terry John lead the local contingent with a 97 in the preliminary singles, Holly Ledgerwood was the High Lady at the Colton site with an 89 and Larry Bunch posted a 91 during Friday events. John was also High for the locals in Handicap with an 84. Even with the day’s windy conditions, which presented some difficulty, John’s effort in singles won him Veteran honors.
Event No. 4 on Saturday was 200 singles shot in Two 100 Target Sub events. Bunch shot 97 and 96 for a 193X200 score and he won the High Senior Veteran Trophy. John broke 94 and 96 for a score of 190 and Ledgerwood posted a 93 and 95 for a 188 total. In Handicap Bunch posted a 90 to finish one of his better days for the year.
Bunch posted an 88 in Doubles on Sunday. Both he and Bob Koller had 89 in Handicap, John had an 84 and Fred Zack posted an 81.
Due to more stringent COVID 19 restrictions, it appears shoots around the State will be cancelled. The Malden-Pine City shoot for next weekend has become the first victim of these new mandates.
Results from the rest of the Western Zone sites were not available when this article was written so it is not yet known if any locals won trophies over the full 14 site shoot.
