POMEROY–The first day of the 2020-21 school year begins Monday August 31. Junior and Senior high school students (7-12) classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and are dismissed at 3:05 p.m. Elementary students start at 8:20 a.m. then dismissed at 3 p.m.
Elementary students new to the Pomeroy School District may pre-register at the Elementary School office, located at 121 10th St., starting August 17. Registration time is 8:30 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Please bring immunization records, birth certificate, child's social security number, and any other pertinent records.
New Student and Pre-Registration
New Jr./Sr. High School students will pre-register with Mr. Fred Knebel in the Guidance/Counseling Office at the Jr./Sr. High School August 17-18. Students wishing to change their schedules will need to meet with Mr. Knebel. Registration time is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m.
Students and parents wishing to contact the Counseling Office may make appointments with Mr. Knebel after August 17 by calling 843-1331 or 566-7031. He will be available to discuss scheduling, credits, college selections and other related issues.
Elementary Supply List
All registered elementary students will receive a welcome-back letter from their teacher that includes a supply list by August 24. Supply lists are now on our website, at psd.wednet.edu. If there are questions, please contact Alaina Fruh at 843-1651, starting August 17.
Returning Student Registration grades 8-12
All returning Jr./Sr. High School students registered, to receive a copy of your schedule stop by the main office on the following dates: Grades 9-10–August 19–9 a.m.-2 p.m .; Grades 7-8–August 20–9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Seventh Grade Orientation
Seventh grade student orientation will be held on the first day of school August 31. Amy Miller, High School Principal will provide a poser point on Facebook and to the Pomeroy School District website for parents and students prior to August 31. Miller and Knebel will be available during student registration to answer any questions.
School Hours
There will be one kindergarten sessions five days a week. Classes will be all day Monday through Friday, 8:20 a.m.-3 p.m.
Elementary School begins at 8:20 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Parents may pick up their students at the main doors of the elementary school.
Junior/Senior High School begins at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:05 p.m.
Meals and School Fees
The Pomeroy School District believes a healthy, nutritious meal program significantly enhances a student's academic performance. A well-balanced, nutritious breakfast is essential to good learning in addition to his or her lunch. Breakfast is available for grades K-12 at the high school building between 7:45–8:20 a.m. each school day. Lunch will be served to grades K-12 in the high school building.

District/ASB Secretary Lori Flynn is available to accept money for ASB fees and meal accounts in the District Office in the Elementary building August 17. You are encouraged to come in early to avoid the first day rush.
Garfield County Treasurer Tereasa Summers has informed the school district that NSP check fee is $39.
The Bus Zone
School buses will unload and load at the east end of the Jr./Sr. High School building on Pataha Street. Due to changes to the School Bus routes the 2019-2020 school year, all bus students will arrive at the bus stop a few minutes before scheduled pick-up. For students new to the school district, please call Jay Franks, transportation supervisor, at 843-3393, 843-8226, or (cell) 556-7027 for scheduling new stop information.
Student and athletic Insurance
Parents, student insurance is available through Myers-Stevens & Toohey & Co., Inc. There are various coverage options offered which include 24-hour coverage, school-time only, a football plan (required to participate in football at Pomeroy High School if your own insurance does not cover football), and dental coverage. ID cards are issued to enrolled students.
Myers-Stevens Optional Coverage is offered at three levels: Low-Option, Mid-Option and High-Option.
24-Hour: Low-$117; Mid-$171; Hi-$273.
School Time: Low-$32; Mid-$50; Hi-$68.
Tackle Football: Low-134; Mid-$174; Hi-$280.
Dental Accident Plan: $21.

Forms are available at the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High Schools offices. The school office will not be in charge of mailing enrollment forms.
Parents or guardians are responsible for mailing or faxing their enrollment form and payment, using a credit card, check or money order to the company. Once the application form with the payment is received and accepted, parents will receive two computer generated ID cards. This will confirm coverage. The enrollment process could take up to three weeks.
Athletes must have insurance coverage before sport participation. To ensure enrollment is processed and confirmed in time for sports practice, pick up application form at the Pomeroy School District Office and mail early. Sr. High School football players must be covered by insurance that covers Tackle Football.
Immunization Records Required
State law requires all students enrolled in a public school are to show documentation (or signed exemption letter) for the following vaccinations: 2 MMR, 2 Varicella, 5 Dtap, 4 Polio, and 3 Hepatitis B. In addition to these vaccinations, students ages 10-11 need documentation of an additional Tdap vaccine before starting 6th grade. Failure to provide documentation of these required immunization could result in a temporary expulsion from school.
A parent/guardian signature may also be required on the immunization record for the school file. If you have any questions, or are unsure of your child's immunization status, please check with Elizabeth Stringer at the Health District Office at 509-843-3412.
All Sports Orientation Night
At this time our first sports season practices will not start until December 28, at the earliest. We will offer some athletic activities this fall, once school starts, and we are still working out the details. At this time, we are not able to meet in person with parents due to COVID restrictions. Our intent is to hold an in person meeting as soon as possible.
Back-To-School Night
Due to COVID-19 restriction, the Pomeroy School District will not be holding back to school night.
School and Sport Pictures
Leo's Photography will take individual and ASB card pictures for grades 6-12 on Friday September 4 and pre-school-5th grades on Wednesday October 7. Re-takes for 6-12 are planned for the afternoon of October 7. All students are photographed for records purposes, even if no pictures are purchased. Picture envelopes will be sent home with students the first day of school
College Information
Pomeroy High School will offer English 201 and 202 thru EW, Accounting 201 and 202 thru WWCC Chemistry 121 through Walla Walla Community College. Tuition information will be explained to students during the first week of class. To qualify, students need to meet minimum PHS/Articulated College requirements prior to enrolling (senior standing, previous course prerequisites, State test scores, etc.). Students with questions can contact Amy Miller or Fred Knebel at the high school 843-1331 beginning Aug 17.
Title Ix, Section 504 And Homeless Compliance, Drug and Alcohol
Pomeroy School District #110 complies with Title IX and Section 504 of the Education Amendments of 1973. Title IX requires school districts to provide opportunities for all students and personnel in all areas, regardless of gender. The district has expanded academic and extra-curricular programs for girls in recent years.
Rachel Gwinn serves as Title IX Compliance Officer for the district. Any student or employee who believes he or she has been discriminated against on the basis of gender may appeal through the compliance officer to have the problem corrected.
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires school districts to ensure that students who are disabled are identified, evaluated and provided with appropriate educational services. This district shall provide a free, appropriate education to each qualified handicapped person who is in the district's jurisdiction, regardless of the nature or severity of the handicap.
Any employee who believes he or she has been discriminated against on the basis of handicapping condition may appeal through the compliance officer and/or district office to have the problem corrected.
To the extent practical and as required by law, the district will work with homeless students and their families to provide stability in school attendance and other services. Special attention will be given to ensuring the enrollment and attendance of homeless students not currently attending school.
Homeless students will be provided district services for which they are eligible, including Head Start and comparable pre-school programs, Title I, similar state programs, special education, bilingual education, vocational and technical education programs, gifted and talented pro- grams and school nutrition programs.
Homeless students are defined as lacking a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence, including: Sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing or economic hardship; Living in motels, hotels, trailer parks or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations; Living in emergency or transitional shelters; Are abandoned in hospitals; Awaiting foster care placement; Living in public or private places not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodations for human beings; Living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, transportation stations or similar settings; Migratory children living in conditions described in the previous examples.
The superintendent shall designate an appropriate staff person to be the district's liaison for homeless students and their families.
Persons disagreeing with the identification, evaluation, transportation, and placement of their child may contact any one of the following persons to discuss their complaint or to file a grievance: Rachel Gwinn, Supt./K-6 Principal or 504 and Homeless Coordinator, Fred Knebel.
