POMEROY-The Gazebo Restoration project at the City Park is gaining momentum with some recent donations. Headed up by Jack Peasley, Southeast Washington Economic Development Association (SEWEDA) Managing Director, and Grant Morgan, Garfield County Public Works Director, the project funds collected to date are nearing $13,000. The latest donation was the $1,000 presented by Bill Clemens, Regional Business Manager with the Pacific Power Foundation.
Another large portion, $5,000, came from one donor, Eric Carlson, who is a 1975 Pomeroy High School graduate. He donated to the project because Pomeroy is his hometown, and he has fond memories of a town that was good to him and his family. He now lives in Wyoming. His father, John Carlson, was once the owner and publisher of the East Washingtonian, in the 1960s and 1970s, according to Peasley.
The total cost of the project will be about $21,000, and concrete work, which is the bulk of the cost, will need to be started very soon. Supporters are anxious to see the fund grow so the work can begin while the weather cooperates. More donations are expected, such as an additional $500 from another branch of Pacific Power, and a grant request that has been made through the Shepherd Foundation.
Donations can be made at the Bank of Eastern Washington, to the "Save the Gazebo" fund, at P.O. Box 8, Pomeroy, Wash. Any questions can be directed to Jack Peasley at 509-566-7079, or [email protected].
