POMEROY–Camas Prairie Shoot participants enjoyed spring like weather during the tenth and final week of competition and it was reflected in the scores.
The Junior Club had beautiful calm weather on Saturday March 13 and they made the most of such good conditions. In the 12 and under division Braxton McKeirnan led the youngsters with a score of 21 in the 16-yard competition and Michael DeBord posted a 20. McKeirnan had another 21 in the Handicap shooting and Byron Collier managed an 18.
In the Sub Junior Division Nick Hastings and Gunner Magill shot scores of 21 in the 16-yard competition and Olliver Severs had the top Handicap score with a 19.
The Junior shooters were led by the 22s of Junior Magill, and Carson Zimmerman and Caleb Baron shot a pair of 21s. In Junior Handicap Magill posted his second 22 of the day and Tyson Kimble had a 20.
The Adult shooters had by far their best day of the year with four shooters posting perfect 25s. Wayne Tetrick posted his third perfect 25, Terry John posted his second, and Buck Geiger and Tracy Hanger posted their first 25s of the competition. Hanger, Terry John and Wayne Tetrick all shot on the same squad. Holly Ledgerwood missed just one target for a score of 24. In Handicap Jeff Wade was the top shooter with a 24, while Travis Ledgerwood, Mitch Ruchert, and Matt Fitzgerald posted 22s.
In Continentals Larry Bunch missed one target for a 24, and Steve Brown and Matt Fitzgerald had 23s.
Steve Brown and Kenny Bott led the Doubles with 45s, Wayne Tetrick had a 44, and Justin Dixon had a 43.
After the 10-week competition, the Pomeroy Junior shooters ended the year in seventh place moving up one spot in week nine and ten from eighth place. The Senior Club moved up three spots in the last two weeks from twentieth to seventeenth. Troy-Deary Gun Club from Idaho won the Junior Competition and Wallace-Kellogg Gun Club edged Weiser by one target in the Senior Division.
As many as fifteen Pomeroy Gun Club members have expressed interest in shooting the Camas Prairie Handicap next weekend in Walla Walla. The three-day competition starts Friday and ends Sunday evening with 800 registered targets being offered for competitors. There will be three hundred 16-yard Targets, three hundred Handicap Targets, and two hundred Doubles over the three days.
Holly Ledgerwood will be shooting off on Saturday for a spot on the 10–week shoot Ladies All Star Team. She will be shooting off against three other ladies for three final spots on the five-person team. All four of these ladies recorded two perfect 25s over the ten weeks. Two other ladies posted four and three 25s to lock up their positions on the team.
