Consider plan to bring fiber optic to fairgrounds
POMEROY–The Garfield County Commissioners approved the Washington Rural Counties Insurance Program (WRCIP) as their new provider during the March 29 meeting.
The Washington Rural Counties Insurance Program (WRCIP) will become Garfield County's new insurance provider when the insurance plan with Washington Counties Risk Pool expires in October, 2021. The Board of Commissioners (BOCC) voted to change plans to save the county approximately $30,000 this year as well as avoid a large rate increase.
The BOCC is reviewing plans for laying fiber optic internet to the Dick Brown building at the fairgrounds, as well to the livestock arenas.
In other BOCC business, Garfield County Fair Board President Sara Lunsford submitted an updated Fair Board bylaws proposal which was passed pending approval from Garfield County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Newberg.
Pomeroy Assist received approval for their Homeless Housing request of $3,000 which will be used for administrative needs.
The Sheriff Office's request to surplus several cell phones due to switching service providers was also approved. The BOCC accepted Dave Watko's resignation from his position as the county building maintenance and custodian.
A motion was passed to order perennial, deer-resistant flowers for the fairgrounds.
