POMEROY–The Garfield County Fire District No. 1 (GCFD) has received grants from Innovia, Pacific Power Foundation, Shepherd Foundation, All in Washington and Volunteer Firefighter Assistance totaling $21,000. The Innovia Foundation awarded $7,000 which went for two Nitronox systems; Pacific Power Foundation of $1,500 which will go toward the purchase of a stair chair; a combination of $7,500 previously granted from Shepherd Foundation and matched by All in Washington for the LUCAS automated CPR machine; Volunteer Firefighter Assistance grant from USFS of $2,900 which the department matched to reach $5,800 for equipment with personnel fire shelters.
Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention (EVIP) classes for new drivers in the department are starting, and a recertification for all will be due in May.
In other GCFD business, continuing wildland training is going well for Garfield County Fire District. In addition, Garfield County Fire District Chief James Cleveland is working on an agreement for cooperative fire protection with the United States Forest Service.
Two Firefighters have passed Fire Instructor 1 class.
The Fire District Commissioners will allow the Boy Scouts to use the GCFD training room as their charter meeting place.
