County opts in the BHO pool

POMEROY–The Garfield County Commissioners (BOCC) made a decision to remain in the Behavioral Health Organization (BHO) pool after hearing a discussion over the Criminal Justice Treatment Account, a state fund for criminal justice drug offenses paid to a nine-county pool May 10. They debated rather to stay in the pool or opting to handle the money within the county. They opted to remain with the pool this year, but to continue to do research and study options for next year. "We need some time to study on it," Commissioner Jim Nelson said. "It's worth exploring further."

The BOCC also passed Resolution 2021-12, approving Public Work's purchase of a Sheriff's Department surplus vehicle.

In other county business concerns, County Road Crew Chief Rod Norland reported the lack of ground moisture is limiting the amount and type of maintenance county road crews are able to perform. While crews driving graders have crossed the county twice, the roller has only been out a day or two. Last year the roller was active for three weeks, but we need to get more moisture before it can be effective. Crew Chief Norland and the BOCC are anticipating rough roads this summer unless there is more rainfall. The road crews are beginning a three-week crack sealing program.
