Umatilla National Forest seeks volunteer campground hosts

PENDLETON, Ore.–The Umatilla National Forest is looking for volunteers to spend the summer as campground hosts at the Jubilee Lake and Bull Prairie Lake campgrounds.

Initial and continued claims for regular benefits increased during the week of May 9–May 15

OLYMPIA–There were 19,619 initial regular unemployment claims, up 18.2 percent from the prior week, and 469,098 total claims for all unemployment benefit categories, up 7.6 percent from the prior week, filed by Washingtonians, according to the Employment Security Department (ESD) during the week of May 9–May 15.

Umatilla National Forest prepares for Memorial weekend

PENDLETON, Ore.–Memorial weekend traditionally kicks off summer recreation season on the Umatilla National Forest and many are planning their annual trek to the mountains to enjoy nature. Forest visitors are cautioned that not all roads, trails and campgrounds are open, particularly this year with the late season snow. Shaded areas and cut banks on roads at higher elevations may still have impassible snowdrifts. Most hiking and motorized trails have not yet been maintained. State Parks, recreation land managers designate Juneteenth a free day

OLYMPIA–The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission announces Juneteenth will now be a Discover Pass free day.

In addition to this new free day, June also has three established free days: Saturday, June 5, in recognition of National Trails Day; Saturday, June 12, in honor of National Get Outdoors Day; and Sunday, June 13, for Free Fishing Weekend. (WDFW has designated both June 12 and 13 as Free Fishing Weekend.)
