POMEROY–The Pomeroy School District (PSD) Board approved Resolution 299 and Resolution 300 at the meeting on May 24.
Resolution 299 is a renewal of participation in Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). Resolution 300 is an authorization to create an academic and student well-being recovery plan, as required by the state in order for the school to receive the next round of COVID-19 relief funding. Several check-ins to be sure the funds are being used appropriately and effectively will be done in the next school year.
The board accepted the resignations of Nettie Severs as Athletic Director, Kay Koller as Job Shadow and Community Service Coordinator, and Jessica Nelson as Varsity Softball Coach.
Superintendent Rachel Gwinn announced the state is requiring schools to screen for dyslexia indicators in young children. These screens will not diagnose any children; they are to find indicators for possible interventions. Gwinn also announced that the curriculum for a Making Healthy Decisions course has been approved by the curriculum committee and is currently open to public feedback.
High School Principal Amy Miller presented the board with two tentative schedules for the next school year. One includes a band teacher and one does not. Students are filling out both, and the decision of which schedule to use will be made at a later date.
The business manager report was presented by Superintendent Gwinn and stated that the school is in need of more bus drivers.
