Pomeroy Golf Club brings home trophies

POMEROY–The local gun club gain awards for fine shooting at the Colton, Culdesac and Walla Walla gun clubs this spring.

Pomeroy Gun Club members have travelled around the Northwest in the last Month to several shoots and they have brought home some Hardware in the form of Trophies in doing so.

The most recent shoot June 5–6 took place at the Colton Gun Club. Saturday, under windy conditions, Larry Bunch posted a 97 in the singles event which was the High score of the day and won him the Senior Veteran Trophy. Fred Zack posted a 96 which was the High score in Class C and Holly Ledgerwood’s 89 was good enough to bring Home the High Lady Hardware. Lee Blachly posted a 91 on the first Day. Bunch also won the Trophy for High All around for the day after winning a shoot off with Dave Bauer of Colton.

On Sunday Terry John posted the High Score for the locals with a 96 which was the Top Score in the Veteran Class. Zack ended up tied for C Class with a 95 but lost an eventual shoot off for that trophy. Holly Ledgerwood broke a 93 which again gave her the High Lady award. Robert DesJardin posted a 93 also, and Bunch had a 92. Blachly put up a score of 90. In Sunday’s Handicap Zack had the top local score of 88 followed by Bunch with an 87. Robert Koller and Terry John posted 86s.

Earlier in May several shooters shot at Culdesac and Bunch broke 276 of 300 Doubles targets in their 300-target marathon which was runner up to 13-year-old Bruce Bradly of Orofino in B Class. Bradly broke 277. Fred Zack broke a 48 in the 50 target Handicap race at Culdesac and lost a shoot off for Champion in that event.

On the same weekend Steve and Holly Ledgerwood participated in a PITA shoot in Walla Walla and Holly posted singles scores of 96, 95, 94 and 94 in a solid performance just off the pace of All American Laura Winkle of Kennewick. Bunch travelled to Marlin Gun Club on Sunday of that weekend and broke a 97 in singles that was good enough for B class honors.

Upcoming shoots include a one-day event this Sunday at the Orofino Gun Club June 13. The following weekend will be the Father’s Day two-day shoot at Nez Perce Gun Club. The Washington State Shoot will be in Walla Walla the following weekend June 24-27. One thousand championship targets will be offered along with numerous category trophies for both in State and out of State shooters.
