Hospital, County Health districts recognized for contributions to keeping schools open during pandemic

POMEROY–Rachel Gwinn, Pomeroy School District Superintendent, presented Community Leadership awards from the Washington Association of School Administrators to the Garfield County Hospital and Health districts at the Garfield County Commissioners meeting June 28. She expressed her sincere thanks for the Hospital and Health districts' leadership in keeping the elementary and Jr./Sr. high schools open during the past school year.

The Garfield County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) approved a State Enhanced E911 contract with the Washington State Military Department to provide funds for call takers equipment and maintenance. The contract is for the fiscal year 2022, starting July 1, 2021 and ending June 30, 2022. The WSMD will provide $576,652. This contract has been a major source of funding for the 911 department.

Garfield County Sheriff Drew Hyer reported that Deputy Adam Dispenza received a laceration on his hand during an arrest on June 18. No complications from the injury have been reported. Sheriff Hyer also announced that Deputies Camdon Costello and Tiffany Williamson will graduate from the Spokane Police Academy on June 30. Williamson will begin working with Deputy Dispenza on July 1 and Costello with Undersheriff Calvin Dansereau on July 3.

The BOCC met with representatives of the East Washingtonian Agricultural Museum to discuss the layout of updates to the fairgrounds, including the sprinkler system, internet, and electrical remodel. No action arose from this discussion.
