Southeastern state parks public meeting rescheduled Oct. 19

Additional in-person meetings set for November

OLYMPIA–Washington State Parks has rescheduled its public meeting to share recommendations for long-term recreation and land use for three state parks in southeastern Washington.

The meeting, originally scheduled for Oct. 5, will take place virtually on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Additionally, two in-person meetings will be held next month in two southeastern Washington towns.

The parks, Palouse Falls, Lyons Ferry and Lewis and Clark Trail, are located in Franklin, Whitman and Columbia counties.

State park planners and area field staff will host meetings for the public concerning state parks recreation planning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19. Join the meeting online at the following link: https://bit.ly/BlueMtnMeeting

Attendees do not need to download Microsoft Teams to join. They will need a web browser and speakers to watch and listen to the presentation.

The in-person meetings will take place beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8 and Tuesday, Nov. 9 in locations to be determined. For detailed information and updates, please visit: http://bit.ly/PalousePlan

The meetings will focus on preliminary long-term boundary and land-use recommendations at the three parks, including:

-Proposed permitting process for Palouse Falls State Park to protect the land and reduce risk of overcrowding.

-Proposed removal of campsites from Palouse Falls State Park, which would repurpose the park as day-u-se only.

Proposed addition of camping to Lyons Ferry State Park, a 5-mile drive from Palouse Falls with better amenities and more active recreation opportunities.

These meetings will bring the agency closer to developing final recommendations, which will be presented to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission at a future meeting.

The public can provide written questions, comments and suggestions during the meeting and online through Friday, October 29, 2021. More information can be found on the project webpage at: http://bit.ly/PalousePlan
