POMEROY–Garfield County Fire District #No. 1 announced the beginning of a Firefighter 1 class at their meeting on November 9. The class will begin on December 6 and continue on Monday nights until March. Volunteers who have successfully completed the class will be eligible for a $1,500 stipend that is financed through a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant.
A grant from Lewis Clark Valley Heath Care Foundation for the purchase of a cardiac monitor totals $32,000. The monitor has been ordered and is expected to arrive next month.
The Medic 20 truck is being repaired. The springs are causing the back tires to create a swaying sensation when driven at highway speeds. At times, the back door opens and the rig sucks dust. Otherwise, the vehicle's construction is sound. Fire Chief James Cleveland expects the repairs to be finished in December.
District Secretary Deedee Weymouth announced that she handed out about 200 bags of candy at Trick or Trunk on October 29.
