Daughters of the Pioneers of Washington, Pomeroy Chapter 15, will hold its annual “Santa’s Christmas Box” raffle to fund the organization’s yearly scholarship for a Pomeroy High School senior. The organization awarded Melissa Bartlow its scholarship for 2011.
Pataha Flour Mill will have its annual “Christmas Tea” on Saturday, Dec. 10. Mill director Jon Van Vogt said the yuletide event is open to adults and children alike, and features a wide variety of Christmas treats and hot beverages, along with festive Christmas music. Highlighting this year’s program are children singing and playing musical instruments, and Pastor Roger Pederson telling a children’s story.

At Dayton, a former Blue Mountain League rival now playing in Class A, rebounding was a key. Playing in the game for the Pirates were Nick Cox, Erin McCabe, Bryan McKeirnan, Scott Young, Seth Claasen, Bill Fruh, Jared Ledgerwood, and Bryant Pierce.
Faith Rebekah Lodge met Dec. 3. Marlane Schilling, Noble Grand, presided. Discussion of the family Christmas party was held. The evening will start with a potluck supper followed by the program. Santa will make an appearance. Family members and friends are invited to attend.

We have located a livestock scale for the fairgrounds. A scale firm in Yakima will make us up a Fairbanks-Morse scale, with a good holding pen and put on a Howe dial indicator so we can read off the weights direct.
Virgil Klaveano, Jr., Bob McGreevy and Dick Ledgerwood were elected to three-year terms as directors of the Garfield County Cattlemen’s Association at their annual meeting Monday. Holdover directors include Bill Wolf, Tracy Beale, Dick Tetrick and Neil Keatts.

A meeting is to be held in the Maple Hall, Tuesday, December 17, at 8:00 p.m., for the purpose of organizing a flying club in Garfield County. Anyone interested in learning to fly an airplane is invited to attend this gathering and, if enough interest is manifested, an organization will be perfected. One air-minded individual, who is greatly interested in the project, stated that if 30 members are obtained it will be possible, at a nominal cost, to purchase an airplane and employ a competent instructor to teach its members the fundamentals in flying.
Johnnie Light, 66, and his 58-year-old wife, Minnie, have completed a ride in a covered wagon pulled by a pair of old mules – a 3,000-mile ride that lasted six months. The Lights journeyed all the way from Corpus Christi, Texas. Although tired and dusty, they stood up better than their mules. The animals wore out 14 pairs of shoes.

Floyd Stevenson of Pomeroy, appeared in the role of Mr. Ralston in the state college play, “Nothing But the Truth,” which was staged Friday evening.
Miss Eula Ledgerwood’s name appears as second alto in a women’s quartette for the coming year recently organized by Whitman college in Walla Walla.
R.J. Stevenson announces a meeting in the high school auditorium on December 12 for the organization of a teachers’ and parents’ association.

The school exhibition at Belplain was a decided grand success, which was largely attended.
Miss Hattie Corbin did her part nicely, in leading the Y.P.S.C.E. last Sunday evening. That’s what we all think and say. Didn’t president Meudenhall say his little speech nicely and, do you know he only coughed six times and walked perfectly straight.
The Pomeory M.E. church is having the best revival in its history. Evangelist Wheeler is preaching the “old fashioned” gospel as found in the Bible, the effect of which brings sinners in and out of the church to repentance. That is the kind of revival every church needs.
