Wintery winds, power outage plagued first shoot

POMEROY–Local Gun Club members were tested by winter conditions during the first week of the 2022 Camas Prairie 10–week competition, and scores were disappointing as a result.

The Youth shooters did have a few bright spots on Saturday January 8. In the 16-yard singles event Carter Barron and Magnus Edwards led the 12-year-old and younger division with scores of 14 X 25. In the Sub Junior division Gunner Magill and Braxton McKeirnan posted respectable scores of 21. The Juniors were led by the scores of 22 put up by Junior Magill and Troy Steele.

In Handicap Magnus Edwards was the top 12 and under shooter with a score of 15. Ollie Sievers led the Sub Juniors with a score of 22 and Mason Garcia had a 20. Troy Steele paced the Juniors by posting a 20.

The weather was not quite as good for the adult shooters on Sunday January 9. They faced a fairly stiff east wind that caused an uncomfortable wind chill and made targets dance a bit. The power outage that hit PP&L customers delayed shooting in the early afternoon until Club members could run home and grab a couple of generators to run the trap machines. Wayne Tetrick and Steve Ledgerwood provided the alternate power sources.

Mason Blachly, Clark Capwell, and Mitch Ruchert posted the top scores in singles with 23 X 25 scores and Robert Des Jardin, Lee Blachly, and Jeff Hannas put up scores of 22.

In Handicap Buck Geiger posted the top score with a 23, while Ken Bott, Brian Bingman, Mitch Ruchert and Wayne Slaybaugh all had scores of 22.

Clark Capwell was the leader in Continental competition with a score of 23 and Travis Ledgerwood posted a 22.

In Doubles, Geiger was the top shooter with a 42X50 score.

In next week’s edition of the EW, we will post how the Club faired against the other Clubs competing in the 10–week League competition.
