Bucs fall short against DeSales

POMEROY–The DeSales Fightin’ Irish defended well in this non-conference matchup January 4, where they held the Pirate offense to single digits in the second through fourth quarters for a 46-28 win.

The Buccaneers hosted Touchet last Tuesday and Tekoa-Rosalia visits Pomeroy on Friday with Saturday’s game the reciprocal game at Touchet, the first of three non-league games. Last weekend’s league counter at Oakesdale was canceled due to Nighthawk athletes–both boys’ and girls’ teams–testing positive for COVID-19, according to Toddette McGreevy, athletic director, who said it will be rescheduled.

Pomeroy is 4-3 on the season, 3-0 in conference play.

“We looked rusty coming off the long Christmas break, and hadn’t practiced due to weather since last Thursday,” observed Head Coach Chris Wolf after the loss to the Irish.

“This was a low scoring game tonight,” Wolf continued. “We struggled to finish shots at the basket, and turned the ball over way too much. Our defense kept us in it, but too many times we didn’t get a rebound and let them have way too many second-chance points.

“Credit to DeSales for playing great defense and making things tough on us,” Wolf said.

Scoring leader for the Pirates was Trevin Kimble with 20, including a trey. Game-high honors went to Frankie Worden with 21.
