Pirates lose nailbiter

POMEROY–A slim, fourth-quarter lead couldn’t be capitalized upon and regulation ended with a 49-49 tie, then Oakesdale won overtime 15-8 for a league loss for the Pirates last week. It was Pomeroy’s first league loss for a 6-1 record, 9-5 overall.

Tied to start the fourth and nudging slightly ahead, Pomeroy “missed some opportunities around the rim that would have extended the lead,” said Coach Chris Wolf. “Those missed opportunities probably cost us the game.

“Trent Gwinn led us in scoring with 18 points,” Wolf said, “and Braedon Fruh added 12 points. Braedon and Ollie Severs had great games off the bench for us tonight.”

Trace Roberts made Pomeroy’s sole free throw while Oakesdale made 13 of 19. “We average around 15 and they shot 19,” Wolf said. “That is tough to overcome.”
