Senior shooters on target; quarantine hampers youth

POMEROY–The fifth week of the Camas Prairie competition brought success to the senior club, but skirted the youths as the Pomeroy Gun Club experienced some quarantining due to COVID.

It was a pretty successful competition for club’s senior group during last weekend’s shoot, but the youths’ scores were not on target, so-to-speak, as the club had hoped. This limiting effect was due to various reasons including quarantining due to COVID related problems.

Saturday’s 12 and under group, shooter Carter Barron had the top 16-yard score of 17X25 and repeated that score in the Handicap to lead that event. Mason Garcia and Braxton McKeirnan posted a pair of 21s to lead the Sub Juniors in the 16-yard shooting. McKeirnan also had a 21 in Handicap and Ollie Severs posted a 20.

In the Junior Division Brady Bott had a 16-yard score of 23 to lead all the youth shooters and Caleb Barron shot a 21. In Handicap Junior, Magill had a 22 and Bott put up a score of 20. The Juniors had a score of 65X75 against the other 23 clubs in the competition which probably cost them a little ground in the standings. The Juniors were listed in a tie for third place after four weeks.

The Senior Club managed to put up three perfect 25s on Sunday with Jim Adams, Clark Capwell, and Mitch Ruchert completing the task. Butch Burgess had a 24, missing just one target, and that score joined the three 25s for Pomeroy’s near perfect weekend score. In Handicap, Bryan McKeirnan continued his success in that event with a 24. Mason Blachly and Larry Bunch were one target back with a pair of 23s.

In Continentals, Brady Bott, Buck Geiger and Travis Ledgerwood all had 22s to lead that competition. Larry Bunch, Buck Geiger and Travis Ledgerwood all shot scores of 44X50 in Doubles to lead that portion of shooting and Jim Adams had a 43.

The Senior Club was tied for 13th place in the Camas Prairie competition after four weeks.

Super Bowl weekend, shooting will resume Saturday for Junior shooters and the Senior group on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. We will move shooting along as fast as possible so club members can participate in their Super Bowl activities.
