Broomstick Pool is back this weekend

POMEROY––Broomstick Pool, a perennial St. Patty’s Day tradition here, comes back to Pomeroy this weekend.

The public is invited by the event’s sponsors, Pomeroy Spinners, to come by Maple Hall Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, March 18 and 19, to partake of some of the Spinners’ trademarked good food and enjoy the festivities as Broomstick Pool teams vie for the title, says Tanner Cranor, Spinners president. Doors will open Friday around 5:00 p.m. and Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

“Come down for a meal, socialize, see people you haven’t seen in years, and observe,” Cranor said. “It’s a great event, it keeps a Pomeroy tradition alive, and supports a great organization. Many travel a great distance to partake annually. Come join us for a great weekend.”

Cranor noted that any team that lost its first two games, is changing partners, or is a new team joining the tournament will need to qualify on Friday night. Qualifying begins around 6 p.m. Friday, March 18, he said.

Teams must register by contacting Cranor via email ([email protected]” or by calling 509-629-2948

Spinners will be serving beverages and food items at Maple Hall both Friday and Saturday night. Food will include hamburgers, cheeseburgers, nachos and pulled pork sandwiches.

Cranor emphasized that shelling roasted peanuts is part of the tournament’s style. “Don’t forget the peanuts!” he insists. “Shells on the floor is part of the tradition!”

Saturday’s festivities will begin at noon. All teams making it into Saturday’s round need to be at Maple Hall for announcements, paying entry fees, etc. by noon, Cranor said.

According to the rules, each player will play one game before anybody plays the second, Cranor said. “If you haven’t already, sign up to qualify or confirm your spot in Saturday’s competition,” he said.
