POMEROY––Keely Maves whapped a home run and went six for six at the plate with five runs batted in, but the team's 20 points wasn't enough as the error-plagued Lady Pirates dropped the second game of a double header 24-20. The Lady Irish also won the opener 12-1 here April 19.
The Lady Bucs played Tekoa-Rosalia at home and visited Prairie earlier this week, then will travel to Sunnyside Christian on April 30 for a non-league game and finish a string of three road games with a double bill at Colton on May 2. The final league double header is against Sunnyside Christian May 9 leads to Regional Playoffs May 13, 17 and 20 at Spokane's Franklin Park.
The Lady Irish jumped to a 3-1 lead after one inning and were ahead 9-1 after two, bringing in three more runs in the fourth and fifth to win 12-1 in the first game. Both teams counted a single hit, but the Lady Pirates had five errors to DeSales's four.
Taylor Gilbert went two for three at the plate, and Maves went one for two with a double.
The second game was a hit-fest for Pomeroy with 14 hits to DeSales's three. Maves counted the homer, a double, four singles, and five RBIs; Gilbert tripled and was successful in three of five plate appearances.
Elizabeth Ruchert nailed a double and batted in two runs. Kaylee Schmidt also batted in two runs and hit a double. Eighth grader Grace Hart had two RBIs.
