Maves becomes a WWCC Warrior

WALLA WALLA–Pomeroy High School Senior Keely Maves recently signed to attend Walla Walla Community College there, to play Warrior Basketball next fall.

Maves has selected and signed to play for Walla Walla Community College in Walla Walla, Wash and a Warrior. This year, she ended her senior season as team captain, with the “most valuable award”, and most rebounds with 194. She also set a new school record of 515 points achieved in one season.

“This year, State 1B Basketball tournament beat the previous scoring record of 64 points with the current format and blew away the record for the old format scoring 100 points in a single tournament in four games,” said Jennifer Maves, mother and supporter of Maves 24. “She also made the All- State Team and the Senior All Star game.”

Maves, who is 18 years old, has attended Pomeroy Elementary and Jr/Sr High Schools through her educational career. Sports became and remained very important to her as she watched and practiced with her two older brothers; you could say she began her basketball career as a second grader. “It started with Boys and Girls Club and then AAU travel ball with the Lewiston Gators ran by Scott and Cissy Pea,” said Jennifer Maves.

As a Pomeroy1B Basketball Pirate, Maves, 24 was part of the second-place state team in her freshman year, third place state team as a sophomore, and in her senior year the team placed fourth after a lay-off year due to pandemic quarantining.
