Fairgrounds vacated for rental, WDFW consider new acquisition of land

POMEROY–The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) discussed rental of the fairgrounds and potential acquisition of land by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife at their meeting on June 21.

The fairgrounds has been rented out for a family reunion from June 30 to July 5. The BOCC authorized a letter alerting current residents of the need to vacate by June 28.

The WDFW sent the commissioners a letter announcing their consideration of acquiring 285 acres of land along the Mountain Road that reaches from the top of Red Hill, across the eight foot fence, and into the bottom of the Tumalum. The potential acquisition will need to go through a WDFW internal process, and then through a public one, before it can become official. A map will be available at the Garfield County Courthouse, and public comments and questions are welcome.
