POMEROY–The Pomeroy Youth Basketball organization announces the inaugural 10,000 Shot Club started this week July 25.
The Pomeroy Youth Basketball, a parent and community-based organization, has put together the 10,000 Shot Club, or Pomeroy 10K Club as some may know it, program and prizes to promote shooting and basketball locally. “We are encouraging players to make 10,000 shots before the end of 2022, January 1, 2023,” said Assistant Coach Brock Ledgerwood. “It will take time, but we promise it will be worth it! The one skill that will take players and a team to the next level is their ability to shoot the ball! The only way to be a better shooter is repetition and work!”
The program works in this way. 1) Each time you go shoot, keep track of how many shots you make. 2) A spreadsheet is provided to help track your shots, but they can be tracked on a phone, notebook, or even a napkin. 3) Grades 1-3 count all attempts made, and 4-8 count all shots taken; basket or not.
Each Sunday, email your results to [email protected]. Include your name, grade and how many shots you made for the week. Your total will be added to the leaderboard, so you can track your progress. The leaderboard will periodically post on the Pomeroy youth BB Facebook page.
If a player makes 10,000, they will receive a club T-shirt. More prizes for each division are in the works which may include sweatshirts or a new official game basketball.
Reporting the shot count is on the honor system. No guessing at what a player made; they need to actually keep track.
Parents, please help your child determine the best way to record the number of shots, report, and integrity to stay honest with their numbers. This program is all about working to build better shooters for the Pomeroy Basketball program, and the only way to do that is to SHOOT MORE SHOTS.
“We are excited to get a program like this going, I believe it will connect our community and also improve our ability as basketball players,” said Ledgerwood. “I can’t wait to see how many players make 10 thousand and who wins the overall shot title.”
Please ask if you have questions. Find a ball and a hoop and start shooting. The Oasis Park and the Elementary School are great places to shoot. Contact one of us if you don’t have a ball.
In addition, watch for possible dates this fall when we will open the gym for kids to shoot.
“It is great for the littles to shoot at a short hoop to allow them to shoot with correct form,” said Ledgerwood. “They can move to bigger hoop when their muscles grow. Please encourage kids to work on shooting with correct form and shooting from a distance their muscles will allow (now 3pt shots until they can reach it without throwing it!).
The competition starts now, SO START SHOOTING!
