Ron Weeks awarded 2022 CRABoard Program Manager of the Year

POMEROY–The Garfield County Board of Commissioners (BOCC) hosted an award ceremony at their meeting on August 8.

Garfield County Engineer Manager/Surveyor Ron Weeks was presented with County Road Administration Board's Program Manager of the Year for 2022 award. He was nominated by County Engineer Grant Morgan, who cited Weeks' excellent and efficient work on the road overlay project accomplished earlier this year. "He's my right hand man," Morgan said. "We couldn't do what we do without someone of his caliber. He's well deserving of this award." Weeks has been with Garfield County Public Works for eight years.

The BOCC met with representatives from the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife about land acquisition and discussed an amendment from the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts at their meeting on August 1.

The proposed acquisition of 285 acres along the Mountain Road by the WDFW has moved to the public comment phase, which is expected to last about two months. Funding for the purchase has not been allocated, nor has an appraisal been done yet. Impact on Garfield County's tax rolls is not foreseen to be large, and the location of the proposed acquisition is logical. However, several local farmers and ranchers expressed concern about the WDFW track record of land management, particularly regarding weed and fuel control. Another concern mentioned is the cutback of grazing permits that the WDFW has given out. The department will hold another meeting with the board of commissioners after the public comment period has ended to discuss the comments received.

The Washington State Administration Office of the Courts created interagency reimbursement agreement #1, which allows extra ordinary expense reimbursements for extra expenses caused by adherence to Blake decision rules. It is effective from February 25, 2021 to June 31, 2023.
