POMEROY––The Middle School Girls' Basketball Team lost to Asotin on Sept. 29 but notched its first win Sept. 26 against SJEL.
Raegan McKiernan and Carmen Fruh both scored 7 against Asotin in the 33-31 loss.
"Asotin was a strong opponent," said coach Jessica Wolf. "We were so encouraged by how hard these, Pirate girls came to play."
Scoring was Camryn Claassen 2, Kendyll Potoshnik 6, Hollie VanVogt 5, Molly Warren 4, McKiernan 7, Fruh 7, Carolina Morfin 2.
Pomeroy defeated SJEL 45-13 Sept. 26. The opponents were short handed so all B players on Pomeroy's team saw playing time and contributed to the win, Wolf said.
Colfax defeated Pomeroy 27-18 on Sept. 22.
"After getting the first quarter jitters out, these girls settled in played basketball," Wolf said. "I was impressed with their hustle and determination.."
Final score was 13-9 with the Pirates for a win. Scoring was by Ariah Bingman 3, Camryn Claassen 4, Hollie VanVogt 4, Kiara Marquez 2. Players were: Kennedy Cannon, Raelynn Nagle, Giselle Morfin, Reagan McKeirnan, Carolina Morfin,.
The first game of the season was a 45-10 loss at Garfield against Gar-Pal on September 19.
Due to low numbers eligible to play, the B team only played 2 quarters with the score 12-0.
"These B team players are very young and inexperienced this year," Wolf said. "We have a great deal to learn and can only keep getting better. Very proud of their coachability and willing step out of their comfort zone.
"Gar-Pal showed good sportsmanship, said Hollie Van Vogt. "When I was pushed down, they helped me up."
