POMEROY-The Port of Garfield County commissioners approved a proof of property loss claim; an interlocal agreement to lease the ballfields; and changes to the rental rates for the fiber point of presence at their meeting on October 4.
The proof of property loss claim is through Enduris for warehouse 3. The claim will be for $44,557 for the demolition of the building, which will cost more than $60,000, leaving the Port with a little more than $15,000 to pay out of pocket. The commissioners authorized Port manager Diana Ruchert to begin looking for contracting bids for the demolition. In the meantime the warehouse will be shut up and posted, as it is in dangerous condition.
An inter-local agreement with the City of Pomeroy to lease the Shepherd Fields in conjunction with the Pomeroy School District was approved. The lease is a 20 year lease at $100 per year. The lease is for the raw land, as some of the buildings were funded by a grant from the city.
Wholesail, the most recent tenant to join the fiber point of presence, wants to rent 40 amp service. The system was designed with 30 as the highest amperage service, but the Port commissioners approved the recommendation of tech advisor Petrachor to provide up to 40 amps of service. The change requires some minor changes in the point of presence, and the rate will give a usage discount on the $25 per amp monthly charge.
A contractor's meeting for the Pataha fiber internet project on September 21 produced confidence to give notice to proceed at the October 4 meeting. Construction can begin any time after October 10, and is expected to be finished in January, weather permitting. The contract for the North East Garfield County project has been received by the Port, but some clarification is being sought before signing.
Insurance rate adjustments through Washington Counties Insurance Fund is increasing by 11.9% for 2023 coverage. The commissioners agreed to remain with WCIF for the next year.
