OAKESDALE–Oakesdale's undefeated Lady Nighthawks remained at the top of the 1B Southeast-East league standings with a three-set win over the Lady Pirates October 13. The loss followed a convincing win over Colton on the Pirates' court October 11.
Pomeroy's record is 14-5 heading into the final three matches of the season versus Tekoa-Rosalia last Tuesday, at SJEL tonight and Senior Night Tuesday, October 25 against Garfield-Palouse.
Oakesdale won 25-8, 25-10, 25-8.
"We rallied well over the course of the match but they just didn't make many mistakes and outlasted us on many points," said Head Coach Adam Van Vogt. "We served 100% in the match. I don't remember the last time we served a perfect game, which is really hard to do." Pomeroy servers hit 29 of 28 serves.
Haliee Brewer was strong at the net with six kills, four digs and two aces on her six of six serving. Kendall Dixon made four of four with a trio of kills. Jillian Herres served six times perfectly and had 10 assists.
"It wasn't fun losing but playing a team that plays as fast and clean as them is an opportunity for us to learn and get better and our girls did just that last time we played them," Van Vogt said.
Against Colton, the Lady Buccaneers won 25-12, 25-10, 25-6.
"We got better as the night went on against a team that is a lot better than the score would suggest," the coach noted. "We just played that well.
"Colton took a game from us when we played them earlier this season when we won in Colton but our girls never gave them a chance this time around," he said. "We played exceptional volleyball and kept the pressure on Colton with our attack and serving and we just didn't make many mistakes. I'd call this the cleanest game we've played all season in the way of not having many unforced errors. One stat that shows this is that we served 93%."
Herres made 27 assists and was 14/14 serving. Brewer nailed 9 kills, 7 digs, and was 9/9 serving. Dixon hammered 10 kills. KayLee Schmidt contributed 9 digs and 2 ace serves. Clara Jentz was tough with 6 kills and 2 stuff blocks with 7/7 serving. Chase Caruso made 21 digs and was 13/13 serving.
