POMEROY–Five local High School youths: KayLee Schmidt, PHS Senior; Katie Boyer, Senior; Emilee Warren, Junior; Natalia Larios, Junior; and Izzy Field, sophomore, are planning to attend the Annual CADCA National Leadership Forum in Washington D. C. on January 30–February 2, 2023.

The Pirate Partners Youth Coalition is a new youth organization in Pomeroy. This club began in 2022 as a Senior Project to spread awareness of prevention at Pomeroy Jr. Sr. high school. In addition to projects at Pomeroy High School, they have the opportunity to travel to Washington D. C. to attend the Community Anti- Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) National Leadership Conference to meet with other youth coalitions across the United States, and advocate for more youth friendly policies at our nation's Capital. Five adults will accompany these students: Sarah Meyers Pomeroy Partners Coalition Director; Melody Darby, Pomeroy Partners Coalition Coordinator, Jessica Wolf, Pirate Partner Advisor; Wendy Snyder, Pirate Partners Advisor; and Jayci Field, as parent chaperone.

Grants cover the cost of travel, lodging, and food for this conference, however, to implement opportunity to fully experience Washington DC by these student leaders, they are asking for donations. They are seeking funds of $125 per traveler or $625 fundraising goal. This will cover the Moonlight Monuments tour, the Capitol Wheel, and provide some extra spending money for souvenirs. (Washington DC, Moonlight Monuments Tour: $50; The Capitol Wheel, National Harbor, Maryland: $25; Extra spending money for souvenirs: $50; Total: $125 per student)
