The Pomeroy Jr. High girls' volleyball team defeated Tekoa-Rosalia 25-8, 25-15, 15-3 in the first match of the season Jan. 19.
We did a great job of transitioning from offense to defense and limited our mistakes. I was very impressed with how well we remembered our rotations and how crisp we looked. We were very good at setting up pass, set, spike sequences as evidenced by having 16 kills on 16 assists which are really strong numbers
We passed well, which is always important and not always easy at the junior high level, which set up our offense well. The most impressive statistic is the team served 91%, all overhand. Serving is incredibly important in junior high and 91% is a number most high school Varsity teams would be happy to have.
Carmen Fruh was 15 of 17 serving, three aces and six kills. Molly Warren had five kills and a block. Kendyll Potoschnik was six of six serving with four kills. Haven Kimble made eight assists. Hollie Van Vogt was 11 of 11 serving with two aces.
The B team won 25-9, 22-25, 15-13. It was cool to see them have such a great first game and then play well all night, culminating with keeping their composure to win a competitive third game. The girls served 83% and did a great job of remembering rotations. It is a strong first match on which to build.
The C team split their two games, first winning 25-20, then losing 23-25. The girls learned a lot and we coaches really enjoyed watching their successful plays. They did so many things well in their first-ever match and they are quickly learning the game.
