POMEROY–Week three of the Camas Prairie Trapshooting Association (CPTA) ten week shoot greeted shooters with some breezy cold conditions but did not prevent some shooters from excelling when breaks in the weather occurred.
Saturday was the tougher of the two days and Junior shooters struggled to get some good scores. In the 12 year old and under 16 yard shooting Carter Barron had the top score of 18X25, while Judson Hall and Rowdy Cole posted scores of 16. Barron also paced the youngest shooters with a 14 in Handicap.
In the Sub Junior division, Junior Magill put up a score of 23 in the 16-yard completion to lead that group and Braxton McKeirnan managed a 21. Magill also managed a 23 in Handicap for the top score and Mckeirnan and Byron Collier had scores of 20.
The Junior division shooters were led by the scores of 24 by Nick Hastings and Mason Garcia with Ollie Severs posting a 23 and Tyler Bagby a 22 in the 16-yard efforts. Mason Garcia, Severs and Bagby all had 20s in Handicap,
In Sunday's Adult shooting Mason Blachly, Justin Dixon, and Wayne Tetrick were all perfect with scores of 25X25 in the 16-yard. event. Jeff Hannas, Lee Koller and Holly Ledgerwood all missed just one Target for scores of 24. Tetrick and Buck Geiger led the field of 39 shooters with 24s in Handicap. Tetrick, Larry Bunch and Geiger all posted perfect 25s in Continental shooting. Tetrick's 25 in that event gave him a 74X75 in three events for the day. Larry Bunch had the top Doubles score for the day with a 48X50. Buck Geiger and Tracy Hanger both posted scores of 46 in that competition.
The Pomeroy Junior shooters moved up to fifth place in the 24 Club competition after week three. Their top three scores are reported to the Camas Prairie Trapshooting Association each Sunday evening and their score of 71 this past week tied them for the top scores of the week with two other teams. Bonners Ferry Idaho and Hermiston Oregon also managed scores of 71.
The Pomeroy Adults remained in sixth place in the Competition with a score of 74.25 for the week and that strengthened their sixth place position. The Senior Club scores are based on the number of shooters for the day.
All Clubs have to report at least three scores for a possible score of 75 in the 16-yard competition. With up to 30 shooters three scores need to be submitted. When the Club has over 30 shooters, they need to report four scores and they are averaged for the final total. At 40 shooters, the Club needs to submit five scores and an additional score for every increment of 10 after that. Pomeroy had 39 shooters for the past week so four shooters' scores were reported for the 74.25 total. One more score of 25 would have given the Club a perfect 75.
Scores for all the teams in the CPTA are posted in the Sports section of the Lewiston morning Tribune every Tuesday.
Shooting will resume for juniors this Saturday, January 28 at 8 a.m., and the club will be open for adults and juniors who did not shoot Saturday at 9 a.m. on Sunday January 29.
