Wind gusts raise havoc for targets

POMEROY–Mother nature dealt the Pomeroy Gun Club members another "blow" during this past weekend's shooting activities at the local range. The blow was gusty winds that affected target flight on both days. Targets can be set on the trap machines in steady winds but when winds gust target flight is unpredictable and problems are created for shooters.

The 12-year-old and under16-yard competition, on Saturday, Luke Collier had the best weekend score of 17. Carter Barron posted the best Handicap score for the youngest shooters with a score of 18, Rowdy Cole put up a score of 17.

In Sub Junior competition Gunner Magill had the best score in the 16-yard. competition with a score of 22. Gunner also led the Sub Junior Handicap with a 23.

Mason Garcia had the best 16 Yard score in the Junior division with a score of 23. Brady Bott and Ollie Severs posted scores of 21. Brodie Magill led the Juniors with a 23 in Handicap and Bott posted another 21.

The Senior Club could not put up a perfect score of 25 on Sunday, for the second week in a row. Wayne Tetrick and Kenny Bott did post scores of 24. Jim Adams, Justin Dixon, Larry Bunch, Steve Brown, Mason Blachly and Mitch Ruchert all missed two Targets for scores of 23. Tetrick and Jim Adams had 23s in Handicap to lead that event. Brian Bingman and Richard Madden posted scores of 22.

In Continental competition Jim Adams, Steve Brown and Buck Geiger topped the field with scores of 23. Luke Ledgerwood posted a 22.

Jim Adams and Buck Geiger led the pack in Double with very good scores of 46 considering the conditions.

The Junior Club is hanging on to its second place standing by one Target over Troy-Deary Gun Club, after eight weeks. The Juniors have fallen 15 Targets behind first place Hermiston. Pomeroy Adults slipped to 10th place in the 24 Club Field.

Week nine will take place next Saturday, March 4, for Juniors and Sunday March 5 for the Senior Club. Week 10 will finish the 10-week competition the following weekend and the Camas Prairie Handicap will take place at the Walla Walla Gun Club the weekend of March 16–19 with 900 registered Targets offered over the four days.
