POMEROY–The Pomeroy Spinners' Saint Patrick's Day tradition of Broomstick Pool at Maple Hall begins with qualifying rounds at 6 p.m. Friday, March 17, in Spinners Maple Hall, with competition getting under way at noon, Saturday, March 18. Doors open an hour prior to competition both days.
There are around 30 two-person teams anticipated to play in the tournament where finely crafted and balanced pool cues are exchanged for broomsticks, making the rounds of play more fun and unexpected.
The Spinners will be serving beverages and food items both Friday and Saturday. Food items include hamburgers, cheeseburgers, nachos, and on Saturday only, pulled pork sandwiches. And there will be plenty of salted-in-the-shell peanuts. Shells on the floor are part of the tradition.
The public is invited to make the trek to Maple Hall as many visitors travel a great distance to participate every year. The Spinners encourage spectators to drop in for food, socialization and watching the fun on the green felt.
