Spinners egg hunt venue approved by City Council

POMEROY–The Pomeroy City Council approved two requests for use, and discussed grant applications and discussed warehousing at their meeting on March 7.

The council approved a request from Pomeroy Spinners to use the Lybecker Football Field and Crystal Springs Golf Course for their annual Easter egg hunt. They also approved a request from Pomeroy Community Center to close 9th Street on June 9 for the Wine & Stein.

The council has applied for a 2023 community grant through the Innovia Foundation for the tennis court upgrade. The results will be announced in May, and if the grant is approved the tennis court project will be fully funded. Another grant that is pending is for $5,000 reimbursement for removing damaged and dying trees in the City Park and the Crystal Springs Golf Course. The City already has $5,000 budgeted toward the project.

In discussion about warehousing, an active ordinance was brought up that charges buildings with shut-off water and sewer 25% of the rates. The ordinance has not yet been enforced because of technical difficulty in the City's computer system, but it is expected to be once the difficulty is ironed out.

In further business, Scott Baysinger approached the council to discuss the city code requirements of 1.5 off-street parking places for every apartment in a building. He is considering purchase of the Chard building and remodeling the upstairs floor to make apartments, but the building lacks the required parking space. Baysinger will seek a variance to allow the apartments without requiring the parking space.

The council also approved an extension of the special permit allowed to 225 23rd Street, permitting the occupiers time to remove a burned trailer. The extension will be good until June.
