2023 Camas Prairie Shoot four day event

WALLA WALLA–The 2023 Camas Prairie Trap Shoot held at the gun club here, had over 300 shooters including 10 members of the Pomeroy Gun Club participate in the four-day event, March 16-19.

Members of the Pomeroy Gun Club participated in all or part of the 2023 Camas Prairie Trap Shoot over four days, March 16–19, at Walla Walla Gun Club. Over 300 shooters from the 24 member Clubs of the Camas Prairie Association and from other locations over several States took advantage of beautiful weather to take part in the shoot.

The Association offered 100 Handicap Targets for shooters, on Thursday, who were arriving early and setting up in the many camper sites at the Walla Walla facility. Around 65 shooters took advantage of the tune up opportunity before the regular program started on Friday. Buck Geiger shot a respectable 91X100 in that event and Larry Bunch and Tracy Hanger posted scores of 87.

The regular program started with 100 16-yard targets on Friday morning. Buck Geiger shot a career best 99X100 which won him the B Class runner-up Trophy, Jim Adams posted a 97 and Holly Ledgerwood also put up a 97 which garnered the High Lady Award. Lee Blachly had a 94 and Tracy Hanger had a 93.

In Friday's Handicap, Geiger posted a 95 which won him Runner up honors after a three-way shoot-off that included All American shooter Grant Williams of Wallace-Kellogg Gun Club. Geiger also was awarded a yard of Handicap yardage from the 20-yard line to the 21-yard line for his effort. Larry Bunch and Tracy Hanger both shot scores of 91 and Bunch's score was good enough to win the Senior Vet category Trophy in the event.

In Friday's Doubles event Jim Adams shot an impressive 96 which won him the Veteran Trophy, Bunch had a 91 which was good enough for Senior Vet Runner-up and Tracy Hanger shot an 89 one Target ahead of Geiger's 88.

Championship Doubles started the Saturday morning shoot and Bunch managed a score of 94 which made him the Senior Vet Champion for the shoot. Geiger had a score of 93 and Jim Adams shot an 89.

The first half of the Championship singles was the second event on Saturday and 298 shooters posted scores. Jim Adams led the Pomeroy contingent with a score of 99, Bunch shot a 97, Lee Blachly had a 96, Beau Blachly posted a 95, Buck Geiger had a 94 and Holly Ledgerwood, Mason Blachly and Terry John all shot scores of 93. Trophies were not awarded for this 100 Targets but were combined with Sunday's scores for a 200 Target event.

The Handicap event on Saturday, Buck Geiger put up a 94, Terry John and Tracy Hanger had scores of 91 and Terry's Score got him the Veteran Trophy. Beau and Mason Blachly matched scores of 89 in the event.

The second half of the Camas Prairie Championship singles (16-yard) were shot on Sunday, and combined with Saturday's Scores. Jim Adam shot a 97 and combined with his Saturday 99 he led the local contingent with a total score of 196. Buck Geiger broke a 98 and ended with a two-day total of 192, Larry Bunch had a 93 for a total of 190, Holly Ledgerwood had a 96 for a two day total of 189 and she won the Lady II Runner-up Trophy. Beau Blachly had a 93 for a two-day total of 188 and he won a shoot off for D class Runner-up honors and a trophy. Terry John had a 94 and a two-day total of 187 as did Lee Blachly with his score of 91 for 187. Mason Blachly had a second 93 for his two-day total of 186, and Tracy Hanger had 94 and a total of 185.

In Sunday's Handicap event, the top score for Pomeroy was shot by Beau Blachly with a 93, Buck Geiger had a 91, Tracy Hanger posted an 89 and Mason Blachly had an 88.

The Pomeroy Gun Club will have their fun and games day and potluck BBQ at the local range, along with the annual business meeting that will include yearly awards and election of officers this coming Sunday March 26. Games will start around 9 a.m. with some shooting before lunch and the annual meeting around 1 p.m. The Club will provide hamburgers and hot dogs. Members are asked to bring side dishes and desserts.
