POMEROY––The Pirate boys scored 157 for first place and the girls placed fifth with 47 points in the eight-way D9 1B meet here April 11. "This meet was done on a cold, windy day and just coming off of spring break so I expect our kids to build on this performance as April progresses," said Coach Adam Van Vogt.
Sidney Bales won first in four events and, halfway through the season, ranks in the top 10 in state in six events and first place in three.
Katie Boyer placed in four events, capturing first in pole vault and setting a personal best in the 100.
Thirteen Pirates placed, including Tyler Slaybaugh, Trevin Walton, Braedon Fruh, Levi Bowen, David Tejero, Bethany Zimmerman, and Carmen Fruh who all placed in three events.
Levi Bowen took home two second-place finishes and a fifth-place finish. He is a freshman competing against much older competition and he set personal bests in all four of his events.
Eighth grader Carmen Fruh had three top-eight place finishes against high-school competition.
The 4x1 boys relay (Walton, Slaybaugh, Fruh, and Bales) had a strong meet, capturing first and in state overall in their first time running this season.

Girls with personal bests include Sage Kimble in shot put (16-10) and discus (46-6); Natalia Larios in the 100 (15.99); Savannah Lyden in discus (29-11); Atalya Mitchell in the 100 (16.28); Sophia Phelps in the 100 (17.89); Emma Thompson in shot put (11-11); discus (34-8), and javelin (23-10); Rilee Thompson in shot put (19-11), discus (39-10), and javelin (44-7).
Other eighth graders who placed while competing up include Haven Kimble in two events, Ashton Tucker, and Robby Van Vogt. All four of these junior high students were competing in their first-ever high school meet.
