Fire Chief appointed Garfield County Emergency Manager

POMEROY-The Garfield County board of commissioners (BOCC) appointed a temporary emergency manager, presented an award, and signed a performance agreement at their meeting on May 1.

James Cleveland, Fire Chief for Garfield County Fire District No. 1, was appointed Garfield County Temporary Emergency Manager, until the contract between the County and the Fire District can be written and signed, removing the temporary status. The contract is still being drafted.

County Commissioner Jim Nelson received an award from the Unites States Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Investigations, recognizing his assistance with an investigation conducted during his tenure as a Garfield County Sheriff's Office deputy. Commissioner Nelson assisted with several federal investigations during his time in law enforcement.

The BOCC signed a performance agreement with the South East Washington Aging and Long Term Care Council (ALTC). ALTC will provide $482 to be used to provide cash coupons to low-income seniors over 60 years old for purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables.

Also discussed at the meeting was the project of patching the paved roads throughout the county. After delays caused by waiting for the hot mix provider to begin their heating season and the arrival of rented equipment, the patching is scheduled to begin May 2.
