RITZVILLE–The Pomeroy track team had two meets this past week, first hostin 1B and 2B teams for a league meet and then traveling to the Undeberg Invite in Ritzville Saturday, April 29.
"We had a lot of athletes do well at both meets but the highlight for our team came at the Undeberg Invite, where our boys placed fourth overall out of 28 teams ranging from 1B to 3A in size," said Head Coach Adam VanVogt.
Braedon Fruh took the championship in pole vault at that meet with a personal best vault of 13' and Katie Boyer finished first for the girls with an 8'0" mark.
Sidney Bales placed in all four of his events at Undeberg, which is a significant accomplishment, VanVogt said.
Tyler Slaybaugh placed second in the 100 and Trevin Walton finished fourth in triple jump while setting a personal best mark of 37'3.5". He also long jumped a personal best 17'6", the coach noted.
Other athletes to set personal bests this week include Tyler Bagby in pole vault (12'), Sidney Bales in the 100 (10.83), Jonas Blachly in discus (55'3.5"), Levi Bowen in the 400 (57.61), Cash Copher in the 800 (2:34), Rylan Hays-Carnahan in shot put (33'10"), Kyzer Herres in pole vault (10') and the 400 (56.79), Santiago Lyden in the 100 (14.48), Tyler Slaybaugh in the 100 (11.05) and 200 (24.24), David Tejero in discus (92'3"), Ashton Tucker in the 400 (1:07), Katie Boyer in the 100 (14.15), Carmen Fruh in pole vault (8'7"), Savannah Lyden in discus (32'5.5"), Carolina Morfin in discus (40'1"), Sophia Phelps in the 200 (36.06), Emma Thompson in discus (41'4") and javelin (35'3"), and Rilee Thompson in shot put (20'11") and discus (69'10").
Sidney Bales and Tyler Slaybaugh's 100 times are the top two 100 meter dash times in recorded Pomeroy history.
"Congratulations to them and all of the Pomeroy athletes who found themselves scoring points in the meets, are ranked in state, or set a new personal record this week," VanVogt said.
Pirate track has one week left in the regular season and next week Pomeroy hosts the District 9 championships as well as the Pirate Twilight Invite.
"I see our athletes on an upward trajectory and am excited to see us continue to improve upon our times, marks, and heights set this week," he said.
